Miss O’Boyle is leaving Killocraun NS, Castlehill at the end of June. Pauline teaches Infants, First and Second classes. Sad, as it is for the children to see her go, their teacher leaves a legacy that few teachers in Mayo could. This heartbreaking legacy matures in 2012.
Three of Pauline O’Boyle’s relatives lost their lives when RMS Titanic sank on 15 April 1912. Mary and John Bourke were from Carrowskeheen, and Catherine Bourke (McHugh) was from Tawnagh in Addergoole parish. When Titanic was sinking, after colliding with a huge iceberg, Mary and Katherine Bourke got into Lifeboat 16, but got out when John was not allowed in. John, Catherine and Mary perished.
Now Pauline has written and directed a play for Killocraun’s pupils on that fateful sinking and those fourteen passengers from Addergoole who were on that iconic historic ship’s maiden voyage.
On the afternoon of 3 June 2010 Killocraun’s pupils proudly and confidently performed Pauline’s Titanic masterpiece for parents, families and neighbours. The audience was enthralled as the Titanic and Addergoole stories unfolded, and became entwined.
The history, music, and drama made the performance a very enjoyable and informative event.
The pictures taken on the day, tell it all. Slán tamall Miss O'Boyle!
